I brought my partner here for a suprise for our anniversary at Shane's place : Davey Johns cottage and cabins. We stayed in Cabin 2. And to say this place is spectacular is an understatement but I will try write with words how our experience went. From the second we walked in there was a bunch of roses left out followed by flowers an chocolates placed on the bed with a bottle of Prosecco that was chilled all from request the hosts did amazingly. The decor is modernly an beautifuly decorated throughout. The bed is something else iv never slept in such a comfortable bed in all my life had the best sleep me and my partner as it is so quite and very very comfortable bed. The setting outside is the best setting for romantic vibes with peaceful as you have your own hot tub which you can use 24/7 which is a huge bonus, you have your own fire stove also that you can sit beside taken in the stars sipping on a glass of wine or beer. Lights above hottub gives off a nice romantic chill vibe. Shane was very responsive to all my questions and he's instructions where very clear. Absolute brilliant host. We will be back to this place AGAIN. The views around the area are absolutely breathtaking. I think to understand this place you gotta stay here to experience what it has to offer. I highly recommend this stay 110percent. We Will Be Back!!

The anniversary request was a pleasure to arrange — those are the stays I enjoy preparing for most. The fire stove on a clear night with the hot tub going is the combination that makes Cabin 2 feel like it's entirely your own.

Couldn’t recommend a stay here more. Myself, my fiancé and our little dog had a wonderful weekend stay a couple of weeks ago, in cabin 2. The ideal base for exploring Donegal or a remote trip to switch off. We had a lovely stay in Cabin 1 which is in a great location with a lovely hot tub. Lots of places to visit nearby. The cabin is comfortable and fully furnished. Never stayed in a place where one of the best bluetooth portable speakers provided. Lots of choice on tv and as I mentioned before the blue tooth speaker was great to listen to our music while relaxing in the hot tub Kitchen is well equipped, and although there are a few restaurants close by, we did use the air fryer once which was convenient. Bed was comfortable and Shower was always hot. The entire house was well insulated and was always warm. Shane is very responsive and helpful and kept in touch as and when we needed anything. I feel bad I disturbed him during his Christmas eve dinner with his family by asking couple of questions🙈🙈. I would certainly recommend cabin which is located in a amazing surrounding. Thanks Shane for the best stay I ever had.

Stayed here for a long weekend with my husband, toddler and in laws. Cottage is brilliant location, clean and good amenities. Loved the Nespresso coffee machine as we have one at home too. Jacuzzi was such a bonus and the projector screen was also a favourite all round. Heating system was easy to use and cottage was also warm and cosy. Hot water is instant once it’s turned on which is such an essential after a day at the beach! Shane was so responsive for any questions I had throughout the stay. Would highly recommend!

Shane has been a very considerate host, we had to postpone our stay two times and he accepted that request. This is a very calm and quiet place for a short stay, however, since this is a pet friendly place, there could be pet hair on the sofa, which if u are not a pet person you might not feel comfortable about it. Other than that, if you want to spend time with your partner or wants to have some alone time, this is a very good place to be.

We had a wonderful 10 nights in Shane’s cottage. It was home from home which is extremely important for a family of four with young children. The cinema screen and the hot tub added to the stay and enhanced our holiday experience. Everything came with clear instructions from Shane and made it easy to settle in. Waking up to the beautiful views of Mulroy Bay is magical. Having a lovely place to stay made our holiday one to remember and we will definitely be back to Donegal!

Shane's place was absolutely perfect for our short weekend holiday! The whole place was spotless, the bed was incredibly comfy, and the hot tub was on for us when we arrived. The views looking over the lough and the hills were gorgeous as well, and there's a small town less than 10 minutes away by car to stock up on all the essentials. Just a bit further out, there's so much of the incredible countryside Donegal is known for, for you to go and explore! Which was great for us, as we also brought our dog along with us. Overall, we had an amazing stay and we will 100% be back again!

1. Quaint little cottage in a beautiful location. 2. The owners were very responsive and as helpful as they could be. 3. The projector was great for watching films and the England Euro matches 4. The beds were comfortable 5. The kitchen facilities were good. 1. We had our booking changed from the 3 bed log cabin to this cottage without any consultation first. We kept the booking because it 'seemed' it would still be suitable enough and still had a hot tub. But I would have appreciated the owners contacting us to explain why the booking had been changed. We still don't know why it was changed and I haven't asked because my feeling is I shouldn't have to ask for an explanation. 2. We were unable to use the hot tub at the cottage for the entire week because of two separate issues with it. Much to our frustration, we had no offer of compensation such as a small refund for this. Having a hot tub was one of the main reasons we went with Davy John's accomodation. 3. We were 6 adults staying in this cottage, 2 couples and 2 single males. This cottage is absolutely not suitable for 6 adults and it should not be advertised as so. One bathroom between 6 adults was really hard to manage in the mornings and evenings when we were all getting ready to go on our diving trip or when we got home after being out all day. It was also not made clear at all that the ground floor double bedroom and bunk bed room were essentially conjoined. So you had to walk through the double bedroom to get to the bunked room. Not pleasant for the couple in that room. Even though there was a privacy blind it made my friends bedtimes not very nice with essentially complete lack of privacy because they had two single males using their room as a thoroughfare to their bedroom. Had this been made clear on the booking I would have cancelled the booking without hesitation. 4. To have the hot water you had to turn on the boiler and keep the thermostat up. This made the heating come on. We could not find a way to switch off the radiators in the livingroom and hallway etc. So we had to sit there and roast whilst we had showers with all the doors and windows wide open. Not efficient or environmentally friendly and expensive for the owners...

Reading it back, you deserved better on several counts, and there's no excuse I'd want to offer. You're right that the booking change should have come with a proper explanation and a conversation, not just a notification. You're right that a hot tub out of action for the whole week deserved a gesture from us, and I'm sorry we didn't make one. And the cottage's layout, including the fact that the bunk room is reached through the ground floor double, should have been completely clear before you booked, so the group arriving could decide for themselves whether it suited them. Your stay prompted real changes. Every listing now describes the cottage's layout and bedroom arrangement explicitly, so the room configuration is never a surprise. The hot tubs that let you down have all been replaced this year with new Canadian Spa tubs, and we've invested in a specialist heating unit that brings the water back up to temperature within an hour of a service, so a tub is never out of action for arriving guests the way yours was. And we speak to every guest directly before arrival, so nothing about the booking is ever a mystery. We're glad the location, the beds, and the projector worked for you, and sorry the rest of the week didn't match. Thank you for taking the time to spell it out; it genuinely shaped how we run the place now.

Nothing The fact our booking was cancelled without any contact. Which then in the next email was telling us we had secured pod1 with the email for passkeys instructions etc. then only to be greeted by another couple who claimed to be in our pod also. I rang Shane the host who wasn’t helpful his attuide was disgusting basically just blamed it on booking.com saying they send that email to everybody automatically which I highly doubt given the details in the email about keys passcodes etc Basically told me he was driving in Germany and it wasn’t his fault. Meanwhile me and partner who had travelled over 2 hours to this place to be then left with no accommodation. Avoid at all costs

We're sorry this happened, and we understand the frustration of arriving after a long drive to find a problem with your booking. The honest account: this was one of our very first bookings through Booking.com, and a fault in the calendar integration we had just set up meant the cabin was double booked. We tried for over a week before hand to reach the guest through the contact details Booking.com provided, but the email went unanswered and the phone number on the booking was incorrect, so we had no way to warn anyone before arrival. On the day, the person who arrived wasn't the named guest on the booking, which added to the confusion for everyone, and I was abroad at the time and didn't handle the call as well as I should have. None of those changes what the day felt like for you (or the person you had made the booking for), and we're sorry for it. We fixed the integration immediately, it has never recurred, and direct communication with every guest before arrival is now a fixed part of how we operate. We'd like to think the reviews we've received since reflect that.

Everything was on demand, the hot tub, instant hot water for showers, WiFi, streaming, and modern and comfortable. I was really grateful to be trusted with my two dogs and share my holiday with them. The garden isn't enclosed so would recommend keeping dogs on a lead as its near the road, but the listing doesn't claim to have this, so I expected it. The divide between the two cabins was a nice touch, and the cabins are far enough apart that there's not too much noise overlap, although if I had a problem with noise, I feel like the host would be responsive.

We really enjoyed our stay at Davey Johns Forge. Shane’s instructions were very ear making it easy to find the cottage, check ourselves in and make use of all the amenities at the cottage. We especially loved the large projector screen which made the evenings with our small child very special. The garden was great for our dog, giving him a safe place to run around while we were there.

Shane’s cabins are incredible. We spent a lot of time searching various properties in the area and Shane’s cabins were by far superior and for a reasonable price. Shane was proactive and welcoming in his communication, the cabins are beautifully decorated and well kitted out with everything you could need for a remote weekend away. Endless beaches and beautiful hikes on your doorstep, friendly local bars and a spotless hot tub to enjoy in the evening. Great facility for dogs also - secure gate and garden area for them.

Fantastic accommodation with all the amenities you could ever need and more. It’s often hard to please everyone and even with a large age range in our group we all loved Davey Johns Forge. A great mix of modern and traditional and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend or book again. Shane was an amazing host, he left comprehensive instructions and guide books so there is no real need to ask for anything, but when I did reach out he was on the ball with his responses and also checked if everything was going well half way through the stay. Myself and my husband enjoyed four days in cabin 2 and we absolutely loved it! The cabin was clean and tidy and it had everything we needed for our stay. The decor is gorgeous and so luxurious :) we loved the hot tub so much and the fact that it was always ready to go was fantastic. The tv was set with everything we could have possibly wanted to watch with all the streaming services available. The bed was sooo cosy! It was hard to get out of it in the morning. I’m glad we did though because we had the most peaceful and tranquil escape in Carrigart. The views from the cabin were absolutely breathtaking and we drove into Letterkenny to visit tropical world which was so much fun! If you are thinking about booking a stay just do it! You will not regret it! Myself and my hubby are home now and feeling very refreshed and rejuvenated. Also amazing that pets are allowed and we will be sure to bring ours next time! :) thanks so much ❤️

Had a great 2 night stay at cabin one. Very cosy with all the essentials and more. From the hot tub, media choices and kitchen amenities there is really no need to leave the cabin. Had a lovely stay here. Beautiful views and love the fact this dog friendly! The jacuzzi was absolutely what had me hooked on the stay and it was worth every penny! The air bnb is in great condition and so clean. Perfect place to get away for a few nights. Stunning at night also with the outdoor lighting and being out in the countryside can see the beautiful stars. Shane was a great host and was very clear with instructions. Ideal place for a peaceful break. So many beautiful beaches nearby. Close to plenty of restaurants in Downings and Carrickart. Dunfanaghy is only about 20mins away. The children loved the hot tub and movie projector. Enclosed garden was ideal for the dogs.

We had a really peaceful and enjoyable one night stay over Easter weekend. It was such a lovely place and was well kept. The space was private and even our German Shepherd settled in well! The surroundings were calm and relaxing. Within a 10min drive we were on the beach! We’ll definitely return. A couple of things to keep in mind, you share the outdoor space with the other cabin so be mindful if your dog is outside :-)

Absolute gem of a place situated perfectly for the Downings and exploring the wild Atlantic way with its stunning scenery. Excellent restaurants and cosy bars nearby. Had such a lovely stay at the cabin. We stayed in Cabin 2, which was tucked away in the corner which gave us a nice sense of privacy. The cabin was so cozy, we walked in on a cold day to a lovely heated place. The hot tub was so nice to get into at night and was really nice despite it being freezing outside. We went for dinner at the Carrigart restaurant, the steak sandwich was amazing and it was only a 5min drive up the road! Definitely going to look into coming back.

The cottage is in an idyllic location. It’s a traditional build with a quirky layout but was ideal for our NYE/winter break. The hot tub and cinema screen were especially welcome. It’s a short drive to any shops or pubs so not ideal if you want to walk but the views and peaceful location make up for this.

An escape for sure. The novelty of a log cabin and hot tub sold it to my friend and myself. Cosy, clean and quiet. Nice touches inside. A little bit difficult to find the entrance as no landmark or light at night. Would have liked a microwave and hooks on back of the doors! Shane was a great host who went the extra mile sorting out our bedding problem asap. So grateful that he accepts house dogs. Will aim to return.

Lovely wee cabin close to many scenic locations! The air fryer was definitely a hit for dinner and the TV had loads of viewing platforms to choose from. Shane was very prompt, friendly and helpful with his communication and check in was super easy. A few downsides were that the hot tubs never reached a temperature where they could be used (which was the main reason we chose this location) and also there was 1 bed rather than the 2 that Airbnb listed. If those things were in order the stay would’ve otherwise been perfect.

We had a lovely stay in Cabin 2 which is in a great location with a lovely hot tub. Lots of places to visit within a short or long drive, whatever suits. The cabin is comfortable and furnished to a high spec-one of the nicest we’ve stayed in. Lots of choice on tv and the blue tooth speaker was great to listen to our music while relaxing in the hot tub Kitchen is well equipped, and although there are a few restaurants close by, we did use the air fryer a couple of times which was convenient. Bed was comfy Shower was always red hot Shane is very helpful and kept in touch as and when we needed anything. I would certainly recommend cabin which is located in a lovely part of the world. Met both Shane and Kate during our stay. Very friendly and helpful. The booking process from start to finish was very easy and the host was always very responsive. Our group travelled from Dublin to attend a dinner in The Olde Glen Bar. Shane’s cottage was the perfect stay in terms of location and the amount of people his cabin (6 people). Shane sent us very detailed information in regards to check-in, how to use the entertainment system, heating, hot tub etc. My favourite part is the video tutorials he had ready for us. He was very responsive and friendly. The all the amenities available worked and were in pristine condition. Every bed was very comfortable even the bunk beds! The cabin has extremely high quality cotton duvet covers. We were able to cook and enjoy a nice breakfast with the 7 ring gas stove (hence the late check out, sorry!) I 100% recommend!

Shane was amazing at getting us girls sorted out! Couldn’t recommend anymore especially for a girls weekend! Plenty of towels and kitchen utensils for making food! Heating system within the house was amazing! Water was lovely and warm and stayed warm till all of us girls got showered! My boyfriend and I stayed in cabin 1 for two nights and it was absolutely amazing. The cabin has a lovely view and is fully furnished with the most comfortable bed!! We also had access to a private hot tub which was so nice. It was the perfect way to relax. Before we arrived I was sent links to videos on how to set up the hot tub etc, this was extremely helpful. Such a beautiful place to stay. Felt like a home away from home and was so clean and cosy. The hot tub was amazing, we spent most of our weekend in it! The cabin had everything you would need for your stay and the host was so lovely too. The bed was probably the most comfy bed I've ever slept in! The area was quite peaceful and there's a lake across the road which we could see from the cabin. Only about a half hour drive from Letterkenny which wasn't bad at all! Would definitely recommend 👌🏻
