The place is always lovely and clean and the hot tub too. We had asked for a later checkout and they moved things around in order to accommodate us. We will be coming here for a long, long time! Big fans.

Google · September 2025 We had a fantastic week in Davey Johns Forge Cottage, it was quirky in such a good way, the sun was out so we enjoyed sitting outside every evening , the BBQ provided was 5 ⭐️ and our two teenage girls loved the hot tub in the evenings. The beds were really comfortable and the rooms were all finished beautifully. The cinema room was also first class. There are only a couple of wee things that would have made our stay even better, we would have appreciated a bit of info on local restaurants, taxi’s etc.. and the back garden wasn’t fully enclosed which was a bit of a concern with an untrustworthy pooch near the main road.. Otherwise this a really top notch spot 👍
Really glad the week worked out well, Katy, and that the BBQ and the cinema room were such a hit. The garden enclosure is worth knowing in advance if you are travelling with a dog, the pre-arrival WhatsApp is the best place to raise it so I can point you to the right option. Local restaurant and taxi info lives on our website and I will make sure it is easier to find. Thanks for the photos too.

Google · September 2025 Lovely cottage what feels like rural Ireland, but still close enough to the small town of Milford and the Village of Carrikgart so you can still visit pubs or get groceries with ease. The view of Broadwater and the surrounding wilderness never got old. If you're staying in the area and want a nice cozy cottage, you can't go wrong. If you're looking because of Rally Donegal, this cottage is perfectly placed for Saturday and Sunday stages.
Great to read this, Eric, and the Rally Donegal connection is a first for our reviews — always nice to hear the location works that well for the stages. The Broadwater view is one of those things that genuinely doesn't get old, so I'm glad it had the same effect for you.

It’s a beautiful part of the world, very handy for Downings beach which was great fun for a paddle and had lots of water sports available for the more adventurous. Shane was very welcoming and on hand to help us with the cinema screen and general enquiries. The downstairs double bedroom has the kids room (with bunk beds) adjoining which is particularly handy for families with younger children, but there is also a spacious double bedroom upstairs. The hot tub was great, but the view was the highlight. Loved sitting in the garden looking down at the water and the hills.

It’s privately situated with a view of the lake, making an evening soak in the hot tub a very nice experience. There are plenty of viewpoints and gorgeous coastline within short driving distance of the cabin.

We had a great few days with our dog and then got to enjoy the hot tub and sauna in the evenings after the busy days. The place was clean, tidy and comfortable. The kitchen was well stocked and loved the added Nespresso machine! Would recommend anyone to stay!

Shane was a great host, giving us useful links before and during the trip to make sure we had all the information we needed to plan and make the most of it, including about the cabin and grounds to what was interesting nearby to do and see. The hot tub was our favourite part, with most of our evenings spent relaxing.

Quiet location with a great view of Mulroy Bay. Sitting out in the hot tub with the little fairy lights just as dark starts to fall 🍁 absolute bliss!! The cabin is set up to a tee! Has everything you need at hand! The bed, best nights sleep I've had in a long time!! Location is great with a short drive to Downings and Letterkenny.. I cannot recommend this place enough.. also Shane the host is very helpful and professional. Explains everything you need to know before arriving.. so if you want a getaway for total relaxation this is the place for you.. you won't regret it, I know I don't!!

The location is great for exploring Donegal, loads to beaches nearby and restaurants within a short drive away. Airbnb · August 2025 This is such a luxurious stay! Huge beds with fancy bed linens, not the cheap stuff that’s quick to clean. Loads of big fluffy towels for everyone so we could enjoy the hot tub and sauna. We lived in the amazing bath robes and all wished we could have kept them! Lots of instant hot water, everything we needed to be comfortable and well looked after. The bbq wasn’t messing around, it would have broiled! We enjoyed the chiminea and hot tub late into evening and the projector made the living room feel like a cinema. We were so lucky with the weather, we spent most of our time outside, enjoying the gorgeous views. Can’t wait to come again next year!

Airbnb · August 2025 This is Avery beautiful area of Ireland and we very much enjoyed exploring the area. This guesthouse was renovated from an old farm building and they have done a very nice job. The kitchen and bathroom are modern and lead to a back porch with a nice hot tub. The beds were comfortable and the house was stocked with all the needed basics. The only challenge is that there is a relatively strong musty/mildew smell which they are combatting with a dozen air fresheners. For me this was unpleasant but for someone not very smell sensitive it would likely not be a concern.

The cabins are kept clean and ready for guests, dogs included, and it is good to know the location worked well as a base for getting out and about. Mulroy Bay and the wider Fanad peninsula have a lot to offer, and having a private hot tub and enclosed garden to come back to at the end of the day makes it a bit easier. Airbnb · July 2025 Absolutely gorgeous place to stay, to relax and get away from it all. There was a real sense of luxury about the place, and it's good value for money. The place was also completely spotless, which added to the sense of luxury! Also incredibly dog friendly, our dog even made friends with the neighbours! It is located in a fairly busy road, so there's a bit of road noise that may bother some people, but you can't hear it from inside. The host was also very proactive with communication and making sure we were comfortable and had what we needed, and we're also very responsive to any queries we had. The location is great and in close proximity to some beautiful towns and some of the best beaches and scenery Ireland has to offer. Would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone!

Airbnb · July 2025 we stayed at Davy zjohn for 3 night with our 3 children and in-laws & 2 dogs. it felt like stepping back in time, old world charm with all of the modern facilities needed. hot tub was a plus for all guests, kitchen well stocked and green egg bbq very useful. big cinema screen in living room easy to use and impressed the children. only downside was upstairs bedroom is very tight to get into, low ceiling on entrance and steps little bit steep for older guests. once in the bedroom is a usual height for a cottage. lovely and spacious massive bed. would suit younger guests upstairs it was quaint and added to the donegal charm. 5 mins from carigart and 30 mins from singing pub on atlantic drive. lots to see and do nearby with a car not much to walk too. Shane was helpful and very responsive to messages. parking is great and outdoor space fresh and recently renovated. we didn't want to leave. will return for another adventure. lovely relaxing spot. Just the ticket!

The point about the upstairs bedroom entrance is fair and worth future guests knowing: the low ceiling and steep steps on the way in are part of the original cottage character, and the room itself opens out to a good height once you are in, but it is worth bearing in mind if anyone in your group has mobility concerns. The Singing Pub, the Green Egg, the cinema screen, two dogs welcome and the whole crew not wanting to leave, that is exactly what Ruby's Cottage is there for. See you back at Devlinmore.

TV with Netflix, Amazon prime etc for an evening movie. outside there was also table and chairs with a fire place, and a bbq. the lake view from the cabin was amazing. shane was always available to reply straight away if we needed anything. one of the best airbnbs I've ever stayed in. we will definitely be back!

It was a great spot to be in to explore North Donegal. It was great that we were able to bring our dog as well! Even with poor weather on the first day we got to enjoy the hot tub and the newly added sauna - which was a great touch! Then the sun the next day meant breakfast outside and enjoying the view. Would recommend anyone to stay!

We all thoroughly enjoyed the hot tub and newly installed sauna. Lots of fresh towels and robes provided also. The cinema screen experience was a big hit with the children also. Airbnb · June 2025 Lovely little cottage in rural Ireland. Not too remote though with small towns of Carrickart being six minutes, and Milford being 11 minutes away. If you want a bigger town, Letterkenny is only 30 minutes away. The cottage itself was quaint and a nice little getaway to relax in with a beautiful view of Broad Water and the surrounding wilderness. If you're a rally fan, the cottage is perfectly located for Saturday and Sunday stages. One stage start was only eight minutes away. Hosts were very quick to respond to my many questions and were incredibly helpful. Will stay again when I come back for Rally Donegal in the future.

The hot tub is very enjoyable and easy to use and the fire place was a gorgeous treat. The king bedroom was lovely and cosy. The kitchen had all amenities including a full range cooker. There were a few stains in the downstairs bunkbed room but that's to be expected when pets are allowed and it was worth it to be able to have our own furry friend with us! We also loved the projector for watching movies.

Quiet location with a great view of Mulroy Bay. Sitting out in the hot tub with the little fairy lights just as dark starts to fall 🍁 absolute bliss!! The cabin is set up to a tee! Has everything you need at hand! The bed, best nights sleep I've had in a long time!! Location is great with a short drive to Downings and Letterkenny.. I cannot recommend this place enough.. also Shane the host is very helpful and professional. Explains everything you need to know before arriving.. so if you want a getaway for total relaxation this is the place for you.. you won't regret it, I know I don't!!

Thank you for such a fair review, Klaus, and glad the cabin, the view and the whirlpool worked well for you overall. The point about the grounds is taken on board. Since your stay we've brought in a landscaping team and a regular gardening schedule, so the outside space now gets the same attention as the inside. On the hot tub temperature, that's something we've also addressed. The tubs were fully replaced in 2026 with new Canadian Spa units and a specialist heating system that brings the water back up to temperature much faster, even in a Donegal wind. We hope you'll get a chance to see both improvements for yourself.

Airbnb · September 2024 Lovely cottage beds very comfy and lots of hot water Not sure if you could have hot water without putting heating on we didn’t quite figure that one out if I had one comment would be to make more obvious where the complimentary tea and coffee is maybe a small carton of milk in fridge. Plenty of plates and utensils Matching set of mugs would be icing on the cake but that’s being very picky sorry Shane You cottage was lovely we had a great weekend and have recommended to friends Hot tub was great and the cinema/TV was brilliant 👍🏻👍🏻

Google · September 2024 Couldn’t recommend a stay here more. Myself, my fiancé and our little dog had a wonderful weekend stay a couple of weeks ago, in cabin 2. Our host Shane was great and provided excellent instructions for all of the facilities in the cabin. Beautiful cabin in a scenic location. Will definitely book another stay!

Gorgeous cottage, really cosy and some lovely unique features, it was easy to tell that the place was renovated by people who really cared about the end result.. Shane was super responsive as a host, sent really clear instructions for everything and was a massive help when we left a bag behind!! Would definitely recommend to friends and family and we will hopefully stay again next time we're in Donegal.

Google · September 2024 I recently stayed at this quaint and charming cottage. It was such a lovely trip, it was the middle of winter and we had a cosy warm and comfortable stay. The cottage boasts modern amenities you might not expect of a cottage such as a hot tub and projector screen with access to all your streaming preferences. It was a very enjoyable escape from the city and in the heart of one of the most beautiful parts of Ireland. (even in the winter)
A winter stay is something a lot of people don't consider, but Donegal in the colder months has its own character entirely. Thanks for the photos too, Evin — the hot tub and the projector come into their own on a dark evening, so I'm glad both delivered.

Google · September 2024 We stayed in Cabin 2 for 2 nites for our anniversary in May 2024 & it was amazing! So peaceful & relaxing, we were able to bring our dog too which made it even more perfect! Shane was super quick to respond to every query we had no matter the day or time! Fantastic service! Nespresso machine & milk frother, TV with loads of channels should you need it, hot tub which was ready to use 24/7, such a fab location, very secluded which was just perfect for us & only 10mins drive to the nearest town for food etc! 10/10! Can't wait to back already
An anniversary in Cabin 2 with the dog in tow is hard to improve on, Gavin. The hot tub being ready whenever you want it is one of those things that makes a real difference on a relaxing break. Very welcome back any time.

The location really does work well in both directions, Alan — quiet and private when you want it, but never far from everything you need. Glad the hot tub was the cherry on top.

The cabin was clean, cosy and comfortable. Shane was a great host and contacted us to make sure everything was ok. Would definitely recommend to others and will book again in the future.
Google · September 2024 We had a lovely stay in Cabin 1 which is in a great location with a lovely hot tub. Lots of places to visit nearby. The cabin is comfortable and fully furnished. Never stayed in a place where one of the best bluetooth portable speakers provided. Lots of choice on tv and as I mentioned before the blue tooth speaker was great to listen to our music while relaxing in the hot tub Kitchen is well equipped, and although there are a few restaurants close by, we did use the air fryer once which was convenient. Bed was comfortable and Shower was always hot. The entire house was well insulated and was always warm. Shane is very responsive and helpful and kept in touch as and when we needed anything. I feel bad I disturbed him during his Christmas eve dinner with his family by asking couple of questions🙈🙈. I would certainly recommend cabin which is located in a amazing surrounding. Thanks Shane for the best stay I ever had.
Google · September 2024 Stayed 1 night in one of the cabins. Wish we had longer!!! It was a delightful setting. We made use of the hot tub and the fabulous hot (& powerful) shower; we didn’t use the cooking facilities at all but it looked great - complete with airfryer! The location was perfect (hubs golfed and I hiked). I’d highly recommend this spot. We had a lovely dinner in Carrigart (and the Centra there is a one-stop-shop for all your needs!). The nearby Tramore beach is just gorgeous.
