Brilliant Night away at Davey Johns forge. So relaxing and a beautiful place. The whole property was spotless and the host had thought of everything - plastic cups for hot tub, Bluetooth speaker, everything and more you could ever need! Had a great time in the hot tub and sauna. Shane was excellent in his instructions and everything was very clear. Check-in and check-out were so easy. I just wish we’d been able to stay for longer, a brilliant stay all around. Will definitely be back!

The videos on the different aspects of Ruby Cottage sent in advance made it all very easy to use. The cottage was beautiful, comfortable and made our stay in a wet Donegal absolutely wonderful. The cottage was central to the area that we wanted to visit and so the location was spot on. Myself and my two daughters had the most wonderful stay and we would recommend it in a heart beat. That there was so much to enjoy at the cottage it was very difficult to leave it and go out and about!

We stayed in Ruby’s cottage and it was excellent. We had friends over from Sheffield and it was their first introduction to Donegal. The cottage was everything we hoped for; excellent facilities, especially the hot tub and it was a handy drive to places like Downings and Carrigart. I have never written a negative review in my life but have been left no choice given the hosts attitude. We booked our trip 11 months ago for a milestone birthday. For almost every day of our two week trip there were considerable building works on the property meaning blinds and windows had to stay closed for privacy and noise. Right beside the games room and sauna - rendering them unusable. We had multiple people push past our van to get into the “private” back garden. The bathroom and kitchen were not properly cleaned for our arrival. I tried to resolve this with the host privately but he said “we were not the right fit” This trip cost £2500 and we were living on a building site. I would never recommend this property or this host. Incredibly unprofessional, disappointing and inappropriate. You only get one 40th birthday, and this experience has completely soured it. Will be contacting Airbnb with videos and photos unless appropriately resolved immediately.

Beautiful surroundings with a hot tub which was great. Bed was comfortable. Would I stay again though, probably not. We planned this to be our engagement night away. The team was great in supplying a suprise for my other half which I didn't mind paying extra for. With most Airbnbs though the hosts go above and beyond, milk in the fridge, coffee pods (since there's a coffee machine) and complimentary biscuits etc. The place was empty. I messaged about the coffee pods and got a response that the delivery was late. It definitely wasn't good enough, I booked this 2 months ago. So yeah. I'm not impressed.

We had such a gorgeous stay at Davey John’s forge! It cost a little more than what we would usually pay for an Airbnb, but we think it was really worth it! The cabin was beautifully decorated with thoughtful touches and top of the range appliances. The bed was like sleeping on a cloud - we had such good nights sleep! The water pressure is incredible for Donegal, and I would say even rivals our own back in Belfast. The hot tub on the covered porch was perfect, even in the drizzle, and we spent many hours watching wildlife in the neighbouring field (hares and deer!) whilst bubbling away. My husband enjoyed tinkering with the outdoor log burner for a bit f extra ambience and loved the sauna on site. The only small thing we would say is that the secure garden for dogs for the cabins just wouldn’t be secure enough in my opinion, especially with the proximity of the road and neighbouring fields - but this was okay for us for such a short stay! We will definitely be visiting again - Thankyou!

We really enjoyed our stay. The cottage was homely and had everything we needed. We all slept well, and peacefully, in comfortable beds - a real tonic after a busy work and school year. The hot tub and sauna were such a luxury and really made our evenings, it doesn't get much better than looking across the Donegal landscape from a hot tub with happy kids toating marshmallows. The kids loved the games room, a great option if the weather turns cool. The cinema was used often, very useful for the World Cup! The Host was very responsive and pleasant to deal with. The location allows easy access to the Donegal coastline and pretty towns and villages as well as a trip to Derry city. Some wonderful memories.

Die Küche war bestens ausgestattet, sogar Kaffeekapseln für die Kaffeemaschine standen bereit. Die Lage ist ebenfalls sehr gut, der Leuchtturm Fanad Head war mit dem Auto in etwa 25 Minuten erreichbar. Die Gastgeber waren sehr freundlich und haben uns bereits vor der Anreise per E-Mail alle wichtigen Informationen zukommen lassen. Wir können die Unterkunft uneingeschränkt weiterempfehlen.

We had an amazing stay here for my boyfriend’s birthday and will definitely be returning! The cabin was absolutely beautiful, spotlessly clean, and had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The location was lovely, peaceful, and perfect for relaxing. We were able to bring our dog along, which made the trip even more special, and she absolutely loved exploring the surroundings. The hot tub was fantastic, and the shared sauna was also excellent. Even though it was shared, we were able to enjoy it on our own, which was a lovely bonus. There was also a great BBQ area, which looked brilliant, although unfortunately we didn’t get the chance to use it because of the rain. Overall, we couldn’t fault our stay. It was the perfect place to unwind, and we can’t wait to come back. Highly recommend!

We have some some good and bad points about Davey John's forge to help future guests. 1) The hot tub and home cinema were absolutely fantastic. The views from the hot tub over Mulroy bay were stunning. It felt private and scenic. A real luxury! Home cinema was easy to use and very impressive. 2) We were a family of 2 adults and 3 children under 5. We felt the property was quite difficult for very young children (a few small steps for different levels in the property, garden area not secure from the main road). Although high chair and equipment for kids was provided (thank you Shane!) 3) There are a few maintenance issues. A few internal doors cannot be properly closed or are extremely loud to open which hindered bedtime 4) The smell of damp was quite overwhelming at times, I'm not sure if this is fixable. 5) The noise from the 60mph road was also quite loud, though likely as country folk we are more sensitive to this than most!

I'm glad the hot tub and the cinema worked so well for you, and that the evenings over the bay felt private; that side of the cottage is something we love too. You've also given us real things to put right, and they're now done. The smell you noticed shouldn't have been part of your stay. We've been through the downstairs bedrooms carefully and the building itself is sound and dry, so this isn't damp in the structure; an old stone cottage just needs to breathe, and that's on us to manage. We've given those rooms a thorough sanitising treatment, we keep them well aired, and we've fitted a dehumidifier as a backup so they stay fresh. On the doors, you were right that with small children asleep any noise at all matters, and a local carpenter has now planed the sticking ones so they open and close quietly. Madge is also putting a fence around the garden, which will make it secure for little ones and pets alike. Some things we can't change, and I'd rather be honest about them: an old cottage has its steps and level changes, and the road is there. You were more than fair about both. Thank you again for taking the time, it genuinely makes the place better.

The cabin was amazing! The views were beautiful and you can get taxis really easily into downings (about a ten min drive) if necessary, but it’s just as nice staying in. Shane was really helpful and communicative the entire time.

This is a lovely cottage in a good location. We played golf at Rosapenna and this was a good option for us. Loads of fun amenities (hot tub, sauna, etc. l). Very quaint and well taken care of.

Lovely stay! The sauna and hot tub are incredible. Only tip I’d leave for future guests is this property isn’t directly on the water, it’s about 50 meters away. From the photos it looked like it was a waterfront property but just know that it’s not. Regardless, it’s a relaxing, peaceful place!

The bay is just across the road, about fifty metres off, and you're right that a photo can flatten that distance and make it look like the water is at the door. We really enjoyed our stay at Davey Johns Forge. We received a message a few days before with all the details, the directions were accurate and took us right there. All the other amenities were the extra touch. Absolutely pristine inside, with small little nic-nacs to help you feel right at home. The hot tub with the view is the main attraction I believe, however the fact that everything you need is right there is also a bonus! There is more than 1 cabin at the property but the privacy is 10/10! I hope we’ll go back soon, I had the best time! 😁

Just returned from a fantastic few days in Donegal staying at Davey Jones Forge. The log cabins were ideal the hot tub and sauna really add to the whole experience. Where to begin,, I stayed at Davey Johns Forge Cottage and Cabin , from Friday 3rd April to the 6th, I stayed in cabin 2 and it was an absolutely amazing experience from start to finish. The place itself is beautiful, cozy, and very well maintained, with everything you could need for a relaxing stay. Design, layout and details are all covered 👌. One of the highlights was definitely the Hot Tub—it was fantastic and made the whole trip feel extra special. It was heated up and ready to use from arrival which was amazing, perfect for unwinding in the evenings after exploring the area. There is a ready to go BBQ for cooking and a Wood Fire Stove by the table to light well enjoying freshly cooked food from the BBQ or from cooking inside the cabin. The location is also ideal, offering a great balance of peaceful surroundings while still being convenient for getting around and seeing nearby attractions. Overall, I had a wonderful stay and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxing getaway. I will definitely be returning there again and i am already trying to make it very soon . Since then we've replaced the tiling around the fireplace and taken one of the bedroom walls back to bare, lined it in tongue and groove timber to match the ceiling, and had it repainted properly. I'm glad the beds were comfortable in the meantime, and I appreciate you taking the time to be honest about it. It's exactly the kind of feedback that gets things done here.

Lovely stay in the cabin, we found the host to be very friendly and responsive and there were lots of helpful instructions. The cabin was very cosy and as described and had everything you needed. The hot tub was a lovely extra and easy to use and always warm. The only slight downside was that we hadn’t realised that the property was on a busy main road and the view down to the road in Cabin 1 wasn’t quite as we had pictured. However we couldn’t fault anything else.

Perfect family break. Couldn't fault our stay. The hot tub was spotless and ready to use, the bed linen, towels and robes were plentiful, high quality and comfortable. The house is exactly as shown in the pictures with an added bonus of a covered hot tub and gorgeous outdoor lights (much needed in Donegals precarious weather). Our host was proactive, checking on us, and helpful with any questions. Highly recommend for a family (5 of us plus a dog) as a cosy base to explore Donegal.

Just back from an amazing stay in Davey Johns. I couldn’t recommend it enough, I stayed in one of the cabins and have to say the facilities are to such a high standard, the cabin was always warm, the shower water pressure was amazing, they have all the utensils to cook a meal (gas hob, oven and air fryer), the jacuzzi and sauna were top of the range and to be dog friendly as well was just such an awesome added bonus. I would highly recommend to anyone especially if you’re looking to bring your pet and escape to a tranquil picturesque getaway. The beaches and woodlands are beautiful and so close by. We arrived in Davey John's on a frosty but grey January Friday, but sitting in the hot tub watching the stars is honestly the best way to colour a grey day! The best way to start a new year! We had such a lovely time, the fire was cosy, the house warmed up quickly. We went to Downings beach for a walk with the dog, came back, lit the fire and the hot tub was already warmed and ready for us on our arrival! On the Saturday, we went to Carrigart beach, eat in the Galley in Downings, returned to the house, into the hot tub and the sauna is sooooo gooood! Great fun, really cosy and everything is there to make it a totally relaxing and fantastic stay. Forgot to mention the cinema experience which was also a great novelty! Loved everything about it - think I'll have to go back!

We had a lovely getaway over NYE at Davey’s Forge. Such a wonderful way to start the new year in nature, with plenty to do at the house. You could just stay here and now leave and have a wonderful escape - the hot tub, movie room, fireplace & sauna are such a treat. We had a great time at the cottage. The kids loved the jacuzzi which was always accessible and in great nick. The towls and bathrobes provided were brilliant. The cottage is a bit oddly shapped, some of the doors are small and especially upstairs the stairs and door is tiny to get into the bedroom. Not suitable for tall or older people. Shane can always be contacted and he responds immediately, thanks for that. We have not used the sauna which is shared with the 2 cabins but it looks great. Would recommend the cottage

The cottage is a restored old Irish stone building, so the low doors and narrow staircase upstairs are part of its character, and that is a fair thing for future guests to know before they book, particularly if anyone in the group is tall or has mobility considerations. The hot tub is available around the clock, every day, so it is good to hear that worked well for the family. The sauna is there whenever guests want it, shared across the three stays at no extra cost, and well worth a visit next time.

The location is ideal to explore the many beaches and attractions along the the coast of Donegal. Of course the biggest highlight was definitely the hot tub and sauna. They were clean, well maintained and made the whole trip feel like a proper luxury break. The videos provided on the website were very helpful for using the hot tub, sauna and projector. Stayed for a 2 night weekend stay with a group of 6 adults & 1 pooch. A Lovely fully equipped cottage. Excellent instructions from the owner on how to use the facilities. But kitchen table only had 4 chairs, we had to take in the 2 outside garden chairs to fit the 6 of us. Not enough seating outside for 6 adults, or a table large enough, we borrowed the couch from the sauna area in order to sit & socialise at the BBQ, Hot Tub, as this is the big attraction of the cottage, with the Beautiful Sea View from Hot Tub, BBQ area. Access to the Bay, is just that access, no beach, but lots of Beautiful Beaches close by within a short driving distance. Cottage states that it has 3 bedrooms sleeping 6 comfortably, but a set of Bunk Beds in a single room is definitely for children & not 2 grown adults, no wardrobe & this was a disappointment & it was a connecting room through the ground floor 1st bedroom, perfect as a children's room. 2 large bedroom's were very comfortable, lovely linen, plenty of towels, & robes. Upstairs bedroom has no mirror, it would be handy to have 1. Our host very kindly extended our checkout to 11am, but at 9am the gardeners arrived, with strimmers, lawnmower, blower & herbicide spraying, so we were not able to enjoy our last morning breakfast in the outside area or have the door open, because of noise & gardeners in this area and it was a beautiful blue sky morning. We were quite concerned with drift from the spraying of herbicide right outside back area on gravel of BBQ area, it was breezy, especially for the dog. Maybe the gardeners could arrive after guests have checked out? Overall a lovely Bijou Cottage, but needs 3 double separate bedroons, to accommodate 6 adults.

The gardener situation that morning was entirely on me, we had agreed a late checkout and I simply did not communicate that to the team. They arrived when they expected the place to be empty, and I should have known better. I have put a clearer process in place since. On the seating, we have since added a three-seater bench outside and two extra chairs in the kitchen, so that should be a much better experience for a group of six. I hope the rest of the Donegal trip was a good one.

I booked a 2 night stay for myself, my sister and my dog so we got the cottage as it had 2 double bedrooms. The house felt like my granny's house with a lovely quaint and quirky feel about it! There's also 2 stunning cabins available here as well. All 3 spaces (2 cabins and 1 cottage) had their own hot-tub that was on, water was hot and ready to go on arrival which was fantastic. That and the sauna was what sealed the deal for me to come to Davey John's and neither disappointed! There was an abundance of towels and dressing gowns available and the kitchen in the cottage was fully stocked. Directions were crystal clear, infor for how to access the property was easy and we were left to our own devices which was lovely. Out host checked in via message a couple of times but honestly we needed for nothing! I highly recommend Davey Johns and will definitely return - hoping to stay in one of the cabins next time! We had the loveliest weekend staying here. We were given detailed information on how to check in/use the facilities in advance. The cottage itself was beautiful, the hot tub with the views of the water was a highlight. I would definitely recommend and hope to get back soon.

Overall fabulous stay, host very response and lovely to get away with my dog. Stunning local beaches and a must visit is the olde Glen restaurant and bar. Loved it and definitely will be back!

Had a brilliant 1 night Stay here, didn’t need much communication as we only stayed 1 night but it’s fully equipped with all the amenities you need and it’s a great relaxation spot with a great sauna and hot tub would definitely be back

We had a fantastic week in Davey Johns Forge Cottage, it was quirky in such a good way, the sun was out so we enjoyed sitting outside every evening , the BBQ provided was 5 ⭐️ and our two teenage girls loved the hot tub in the evenings. The beds were really comfortable and the rooms were all finished beautifully. The cinema room was also first class. There are only a couple of wee things that would have made our stay even better, we would have appreciated a bit of info on local restaurants, taxi’s etc.. and the back garden wasn’t fully enclosed which was a bit of a concern with an untrustworthy pooch near the main road.. Otherwise this a really top notch spot 👍

The garden enclosure is worth knowing in advance if you are travelling with a dog, the pre-arrival WhatsApp is the best place to raise it so I can point you to the right option. Local restaurant and taxi info lives on our website and I will make sure it is easier to find. Thanks for the photos too.

High quality and luxurious stay. Everything is to a high spec - high quality sheets, shower, towels, robes, bbq, furniture and AV. It has stunning scenery. It’s not joking when it describes itself as a spa!

Would 100 % recommend a stay here in davey johns forge cottage and cabins, my husband and I recently stayed in one of the cabins and I have to say it was the most enjoyable trips we have had away. The cabin is so cosy, spotlessly clean and has absolutely everything you could need and more for a most relaxing and enjoying stay. We will most definitely be back 😀

We had a lovely family break at Dave’s johns forge cottage. Cottage was really cosy. Hot tub lovely with great lighting around it. House was well equipped. Lots of lovely beaches all around. Great location. Lovely pubs and restaurants locally. Goose and gander great pizzas . Would love to return soon
