Davey John’s Forge · For the golf

Five minutes from the first tee.

Rosapenna and Tom Doak’s St Patrick’s Links are five minutes away, with a sauna, a hot tub and the games room for whoever’s not playing, and tee times arranged on request.

For the golf

A base for the Rosguill links, five minutes from the tee.

The golf is why a lot of guests come. Rosapenna is five minutes away (Tom Doak’s St Patrick’s Links, the Sandy Hills, and the Old Tom Morris), and Portsalon and Ballyliffin are an easy drive on for a buggy-and-a-half itinerary. We arrange tee times on request and a late check-in for the dawn-flight crowd.

Then there’s the part that matters after eighteen in a Donegal wind: a private hot tub at every stay, the hot-stone sauna across the courtyard, drying space for the waterproofs, and the games room (whiskey-stave table, a TV for whatever’s on) for the post-round debrief. Book a cabin for a pair, the cottage for a fourball.

The golf, and after

Sorted for the whole trip.

The courses

Rosapenna, five minutes

St Patrick’s Links, Sandy Hills and Old Tom Morris on the doorstep; Portsalon and Ballyliffin within reach. Tee times arranged on request.

After the round

Hot tub, sauna, drying space

A private hot tub at every stay, the hot-stone sauna across the courtyard, and somewhere to dry the waterproofs that isn’t the radiator.

The logistics

Late check-in, early starts

Self check-in by lockbox, so the dawn flight isn’t a problem. The games room’s open 24h for the debrief, and Carrigart’s pubs are four kilometres on.

For the rest of the party

Not everyone’s here for the golf. That’s the point.

Most golf trips have someone who doesn’t play, and the usual problem is they’re left rattling around a hotel until the round’s done. Here they’re not. While half the party is out on the links, the other half has the hot-stone sauna, a private hot tub, and the games room to themselves: a quiet wellness morning rather than a wait.

It works whichever way round it falls: one of you tees off at Rosapenna while the other has the sauna and a long soak with the bay in view; or you swap, and it’s the spa morning first, the back nine after. Carrigart’s four kilometres on for coffee and a wander, the beaches are twenty minutes, and everyone meets back at the games-room bar to compare the morning.

  • The sauna Hot-stone, open all day
  • The hot tub Private, at every stay
  • The village Coffee & beaches, minutes away
Bistro seating in the sun, looking down across the property to Mulroy Bay — a wellness morning while the rest of the party golfs
