The basics
- Where is Davey John’s Forge?
- At Devlinmore, Carrigart, in north-west County Donegal (Eircode F92 K6H0) — above Mulroy Bay on the Fanad peninsula, about four kilometres from Carrigart village, with Rosapenna golf and Downings beach a short drive away.
- Can we book the whole place?
- Yes. You can take the cottage, both cabins, the sauna and all three hot tubs together on one booking — up to ten people, with no other guests on site. See the whole place.
- Is there parking and WiFi?
- Yes — free parking on site, and free WiFi at every stay.
- How do we get there?
- Put the Eircode F92 K6H0 into your sat-nav; we’re on the main road between Milford and Carrigart, about four kilometres from the village. By car it’s about 1 hour 12 minutes from City of Derry Airport, 2 hours 10 minutes from Belfast, 2 hours 46 minutes from Knock, and 3 hours 30 minutes from Dublin. - Can we book directly with you?
- Yes. You can book directly here on the website, where you’ll see the exact live price and availability for your dates and book there and then. There’s no need to go through Airbnb or Booking.com.
- What’s your cancellation policy?
- For bookings made direct: a full refund 30 or more days before check-in, a 50% refund between 7 and 30 days, and inside 7 days the booking isn’t refundable, though any taxes paid are always returned. Airbnb and Booking.com bookings follow those platforms’ own policies. If your plans change, get in touch and we’ll always try to be fair. Full detail on our cancellation page.
- Do we need to bring towels or bed linen?
- No. Bed linen and towels are provided at every stay.
- Can you help with a special occasion?
- Yes. If you’re marking a birthday, anniversary or something special, let us know after you book and we’ll do what we can, whether that’s a cake, some balloons or a little decorating.
The stays
- How many does it sleep?
- Up to six, across three bedrooms.
- Can we use the hot tub and sauna any time?
- Yes. The hot tub is yours 24 hours a day while you’re staying, and so is the sauna.
- How many does each cabin sleep?
- Two.
- Does each cabin have its own hot tub?
- Yes, a private hot tub each, yours any time of day.
- Can we use the sauna and games room?
- Yes, both are shared across all the stays.
- Can we book just one cabin, or all three stays together?
- Either. Each cabin books on its own, for two. If you’d like more room you can also take the whole place on one booking: the cottage, both cabins, the sauna and all three hot tubs, up to ten guests with no one else on site.
- Is the garden enclosed for our dog?
- Yes. Each cabin has its own enclosed garden, so your dog can be off the lead safely.
Sauna, hot tubs & wellness
- Is it included in a stay?
- Yes, shared across all the stays at no extra cost, any time of day.
- What kind of sauna is it?
- An electric hot-stone sauna.
- Do we need to book a slot?
- No. There’s no booking system; it’s first-come, and it’s never been a problem in practice.
- Is the hot tub shared too, or private to our stay?
- The hot tubs are private. Every stay has its own hot tub, yours alone for your stay. Only the sauna and the games room are shared across the stays.
- What’s the wellness offering?
- Private hot tubs at every stay plus the shared electric hot-stone sauna. Locally there are massage therapists, and Soleful Sanctuary for reflexology.
Dogs, families & golf
- Which stays take dogs?
- All three.
- Any rules?
- Out of the bedrooms and off the furniture, with a quick clean-up after them. There are often other dogs on site, so please keep an eye on yours.
- Does the cottage suit a family?
- Yes, it sleeps six, has a garden, and there’s a travel cot and a high chair for the littlest ones.
- Is there anything for the kids?
- The cinema is always a hit, and the games room is a recent addition.
- What’s the nearest course?
- Rosapenna is closest, about 8.5 km (10 minutes) to the links, and 8.2 km (11 minutes) to St Patrick’s Links. Portsalon Golf Club is 21 km (23 minutes).
- Anything for a non-golfing partner?
- Plenty: the sauna, the hot tubs and the games room, plus everything to do nearby.
Arrival & getting around
- What are the check-in and check-out times?
- Check-in from 3 pm, check-out by 10 am. We’re happy to arrange a later check-out where we can; it depends on how many guests are arriving that day and the cleaning turnaround.
- Can we walk to the village, or do we need a car?
- We’d recommend driving or taking a taxi. Carrigart is about four kilometres away along a busy road with no footpath, so it isn’t a walk we’d advise, especially around dusk or after dark. If you do walk it, wear something hi-vis and bring a torch. The local taxi (Speedy) is the easy way in and back, and there’s a Monday to Saturday bus past the bottom of the road.
- How do we get around, by taxi or bus?
- We keep a list of local taxis and transport in the getting-around section of our Donegal page.
- Can we charge an electric car at the property?
- Not from the sockets at the stays, we’re afraid. The whole place runs off one electrical supply, and between three stays, three hot tubs and the sauna it’s close to its limit. A car charging for a few hours will trip the main breaker, and there’s only one breaker for the whole estate, so everything goes off everywhere at once and has to be put back up by hand. There are public chargers at the Rosapenna Hotel in Downings, ten minutes up the road, and several in Letterkenny; our EV charging page lists them all with a map. If you know you’ll arrive low, talk to us before you travel and we’ll see what we can arrange.
