About the Cottage

A wonderful mix of the traditional Irish cottage with modern touches the cottage provides the perfect backdrop to any family holiday. The wonderfully thick stone walls will wrap you in a comfortable sense of history and belonging that makes you feel right at home from the moment you cross the threshold.

Decorated in a rather eclectic style throughout, the cottage sleeps six comfortably in its three bedrooms.

Walk through the front door into the hall and you’re right away in the centre of the house. To the right is a double bedroom with shuttered windows and an adjoining bedroom where the bunk beds are perfect for kids of all ages.

Upstairs is the cosy attic room that’s surprisingly large. The king size bed boasts the best views of the bay and with four chests of drawers and a wardrobe there’s lots of storage space.

Back downstairs and into the lounge where you’ll find the wood burning stove, two chesterfield suites and a huge cinema screen complete with cinema sound that you can enjoy movie nights in on.

Step through into the kitchen and enjoy the recently renovated space where a half door leads into the garden and a newly discovered window takes on the job of the wine cellar.

Overall fabulous stay, host very response and lovely to get away with my dog. Stunning local beaches and a must visit is the olde Glen restaurant and bar. Loved it and definitely will be back!

Beautiful scenery and what a jacuzzi - even in the rain the jacuzzi is hot and ready to go at all times!!!!

We really enjoyed our stay here. The space was well used both inside and out, and near Carrigart town. we were two couples but this would also work for families too. would highly recommend

Davey Johns Forge was an excellent spot, the hot tub & sauna were amazing and everything had really clear video instructions. Beds were really comfortable and the kitchen had everything we needed. The cottage was really quirky but in a good way. Shane was a very responsive host although no real issues as instructions were so Overall a really top notch spot !!

This is Avery beautiful area of Ireland and we very much enjoyed exploring the area. This guesthouse was renovated from an old farm building and they have done a very nice job. The kitchen and bathroom are modern and lead to a back porch with a nice hot tub. The beds were comfortable and the house was stocked with all the needed basics. The only challenge is that there is a relatively strong musty/mildew smell which they are combatting with a dozen air fresheners. For me this was unpleasant but for someone not very smell sensitive it would likely not be a concern.

This is such a luxurious stay! Huge beds with fancy bed linens, not the cheap stuff that’s quick to clean. Loads of big fluffy towels for everyone so we could enjoy the hot tub and sauna. We lived in the amazing bath robes and all wished we could have kept them!
Lots of instant hot water, everything we needed to be comfortable and well looked after.
The bbq wasn’t messing around, it would have broiled! We enjoyed the chiminea and hot tub late into evening and the projector made the living room feel like a cinema.
We were so lucky with the weather, we spent most of our time outside, enjoying the gorgeous views.
Can’t wait to come again next year!

We had a lovely stay at the cottage with our kids and labradoodle. It’s a beautiful part of the world, very handy for Downings beach which was great fun for a paddle and had lots of water sports available for the more adventurous.
Shane was very welcoming and on hand to help us with the cinema screen and general enquiries.
The downstairs double bedroom has the kids room (with bunk beds) adjoining which is particularly handy for families with younger children, but there is also a spacious double bedroom upstairs.
The hot tub was great, but the view was the highlight. Loved sitting in the garden looking down at the water and the hills.

Lovely little cottage in rural Ireland. Not too remote though with small towns of Carrickart being six minutes, and Milford being 11 minutes away. If you want a bigger town, Letterkenny is only 30 minutes away. The cottage itself was quaint and a nice little getaway to relax in with a beautiful view of Broad Water and the surrounding wilderness. If you're a rally fan, the cottage is perfectly located for Saturday and Sunday stages. One stage start was only eight minutes away. Hosts were very quick to respond to my many questions and were incredibly helpful. Will stay again when I come back for Rally Donegal in the future.

Brilliant and quaint cottage suitable for a family getaway. It was very clean throughout and spotless white bed linen. We all thoroughly enjoyed the hot tub and newly installed sauna. Lots of fresh towels and robes provided also. The cinema screen experience was a big hit with the children also. Would definitely recommend a stay here. Also the host was very responsive as well as plenty of clear instructions provided.

Lovely cottage near Downings. Well suited for our family stay with bunk buds and pack n play. Kids loved the big screen projector screen and hot tub. Hosts were accommodating and responsive.

we stayed at Davy zjohn for 3 night with our 3 children and in-laws & 2 dogs. it felt like stepping back in time, old world charm with all of the modern facilities needed. hot tub was a plus for all guests, kitchen well stocked and green egg bbq very useful. big cinema screen in living room easy to use and impressed the children. only downside was upstairs bedroom is very tight to get into, low ceiling on entrance and steps little bit steep for older guests. once in the bedroom is a usual height for a cottage. lovely and spacious massive bed. would suit younger guests upstairs it was quaint and added to the donegal charm. 5 mins from carigart and 30 mins from singing pub on atlantic drive. lots to see and do nearby with a car not much to walk too. Shane was helpful and very responsive to messages. parking is great and outdoor space fresh and recently renovated. we didn't want to leave. will return for another adventure. lovely relaxing spot. Just the ticket!

Super Fast & Free WiFi

With Fibre to the home we have some of the fastest internet speeds in Ireland. Last time I checked it was 465 mbps!

Free Parking

There’s plenty of parking at Davey John’s. Cottage guests can park right outside the door.

Bedroom Comforts

We have a King Size bed in the Attic room, Double bed on the ground floor. Both come with mattresses that are ‘Hotel Quality’. Fresh linen and towels are also provided.

Cottage Entertainment

The 32″ TV has terrestrial channels along with Netflix, Amazon Prime and Disney Plus. The ceiling mounted projector offers an awesome cinema experience for movie nights in.

Washer Dryer

The Cottage has a washer dryer and a portable clothes line if required.

Pets Welcome

As Dog lovers ourselves, pets are very welcome in the Cabin. We have a dog bed available and a cage if you need to pop out on your own.

Computer Station

iI you need somewhere to work there’s a dedicated work station in the downstairs bedroom.. You’ll have access to plenty of power sockets and the internet over a TP link.

Cycling, Golf and Water Sports

We have plenty of bike storage on site along with a set of Golf clubs and a Kayak if you’re feeling adventurous.

Horse Riding

We’e spoiled with two excellent riding schools within a 10 minute drive of Davey John’s. Carrigart Riding School and Ashfield Riding School are both great!
